SPI Surfer & Beach Patrol Member Needs Help!

At our general meeting on Tuesday, Abigail Daigle and her Boyfriend Stefan Lewis, a local surfer and SPI Beach Patrol member, came in asking for help for an injury Stefan received two weeks ago while surfing. He essentially blew out his left ocular orbit and requires immediate reconstructive surgery or face seeing double for the rest of his life.

We discussed it and since our time line is so short to get him help with a proper fundraiser as he is scheduled for surgery on August 4th and must come up with a deposit before the surgery can happen, we suggested Abbie and himself set up a PayPal account and we would help get the word out.

I have posted a blog entry (Local SPI Surfer Needs Your Help ASAP!) with all the information and pictures as well as how you can donate. You can either donate by clicking on the button on my blog or donate directly at Island Native Surf House. Stefan is not only a very talented local surfer but also has been serving on the City of South Padre Island's Beach Patrol. He has personally helped me out this summer!

Thanks to all of you who found a way to donate to help SPI Surfer and Beach Patroller Stefan Lewis get his eye surgery!

He went in for surgery yesterday at 7AM and according to his girlfriend, all went well.

The doctors installed an implant to support his eye and a plate to keep the bones together for healing. As long as he takes it easy, everything should heal up fine and get back to work and surfing. He'll be back on the island tomorrow!

Stefan and Abbie asked me to send their thanks to everyone from Houston!

Thanks for the update and for letting us know there was a need. This is what community is all about.

I am glad to hear things are going will for Stefan.
